A True Rugby Wedding Venue

A Wedding  With Rugby At Its Heart

Choosing a wedding venue is a very personal decision, and for Julia and Oli, Rugby School was the obvious choice.  They live in the area, Julia works at the school, Oli is passionate about the town and the sport – the connections were far too strong to ignore.  So there was little doubt that the wedding venue should be Rugby School – it was the perfect Rugby wedding venue.  Also by coincidence Julia’s maiden name was Crockford.

Bride and groom

Having had a lovely pre-wedding shoot with Julia & Oli and the children, I had got to know them all well before the day, and I knew it was going to a great wedding.  I knew their priorities were family and friends, but also the place, so I wanted to make sure I was able to capture this for them.  I met up with Julia in the morning with her bridesmaids at her parent’s house.  She was there for her hair and makeup before driving the short distance to Rugby School for the ceremony in the Chapel.  Rugby School is an impressive set of buildings right in the heart of Rugby town, and it is full of history.  The main buildings and Chapel themselves around a quad, with another smaller courtyard area with some cloisters.  The chapel is quite large for a school chapel, with impressive high ceilings.  As usual I left the bride before she departed to make sure I was in time to meet up with the groom at the wedding venue, capturing the moments that both of them arrive, plus all the guests as they arrive.

When Julia arrived her car took the long way around the historic playing fields – a wonderful entrance to make the most of the views of the venue.  After the service, the venue continued to be at the heart of the day, as the guests enjoyed champagne and canapés in the quad, before moving to another area for their wedding breakfast.

The personality of the wedding continued throughout the evening, with the speeches, first dance (which was sung by a friend) and later Oli played in with his own band, the RockOla’s – a brilliant rockabilly band.

It was great to be at a wedding with just so many connections, and that was so personal, both in terms of people and in terms of place.  Here are some photos from their day:

As a photographer, I genuinely enjoy the process of taking photos – the interaction, creativity and happy clients keep me enthusiastic and innovative. Many people find it awkward having their photograph taken – I use my experience to put people at ease so that I can get the most out of them, often in a short period of time.

Over the years I have been a professional photograph, I have won both regional and national awards, and I have been awarded an LMPA from the Master Photographers Association.
