When I am taking wedding photographs, it is important to have a connection with the bride and groom, so it is even better when being a wedding photographer is even more personal. I got to know Sarah when I worked in a previous job at the University of Birmingham, where we worked for several years. After leaving I kept in contact through social media, and was very happy when she approached me to photograph her wedding to Matt.
Sarah and Matt were getting married at St Peter’s Church in Bromsgrove, and then had their reception at the Holiday Inn, Bromsgrove. It was at the time of year which could go either way weather-wise, but thankfully it turned out to be a beautiful bright, and sunny day. I met up with Sarah and her bridesmaids in time to capture their hair and makeup preparations in the morning. The good thing about getting there earlier in the day is that it gives me a chance to get to know the brides family – although as it happens I had met Sarah’s Dad many years ago when he had given me a lift home from a night out after work. I also take the opportunity to get some photos of the wedding dress and shoes.
From her parent’s house in Catshill I went over to St Peters in Bromsgrove where I met up with the guys in time for the service. It was a nice relaxed service, after which we enjoyed the sun outside, giving a great opportunity for family and friends to have a chat and a laugh. It is only a short journey over to the Holiday Inn, Bromsgrove, and is it was so pleasant we stopped off at a park on the way – just me, Sarah and Matt, for 10 minutes of photos on their own. Photos of the bride and groom on their own is always the highlight of the day photographically for me – looking around, getting inspiration in unusual places to get some interesting shots, plus it is a really lovely moment to share with them – the first chance for them to be on their own as husband and wife.
Here are some shots from Sarah & Matt’s lovely wedding day.
