Every so often I photograph weddings at venues that are not specifically wedding venues. These are always interesting as they offer new and interesting places to shoot. Christine and James got married at church in Selly Oak before their reception at Edgbaston Golf Club, and it was a really beautiful day. It had the perfect mix for them of a personal service (partly officiated by a family friend who is a priest – he must have been the only Catholic Priest flying over that weekend from Europe to Birmingham who was not involved in the Pope’s visit the following day…), and then a relaxed and friendly reception at a lovely venue in the afternoon.
Christine looked stunning (as you can see below), and rather surprised James by turning up early at the church – there was a moment where he had to cover his eyes and head swiftly into the church to avoid a sneak preview. They had arranged their reception at the golf club because James and is father are members, and it was perfect for the wedding. James showed his love of golf at the viewing when he described one of the photos below not as ‘the romantic photo of Christine and me embracing by the window’ but as ‘the one overlooking the 9th fairway’…
We also had a great moment later in the evening when some of Christine’s friends decided we needed a shot of her garter, which led on to a mini boudoir photo shoot in what was effectively a corridor with baffled guests wandering past.
A fab wedding. So here are the a selection from the day.
