Anya & Dario’s Forest of Dean Wedding

I had been looking forward to Anya and Dario’s wedding for ages.  Talking to them about their plans for the day it just sounded so unique, and as it turned out, it was.

Anya’s parents live in the Forest of Dean, and Anya had always loved the forest at the top of their garden, so when it came to choosing somewhere to get married it was an easy decision.  And it is a beautiful spot.  At the top of a short slope you get views across the River Severn right over Gloucestershire (a county that I know well as my parents live there too).  To make the forest into a wedding venue, Anya and Dario commissioned a stained glass window which they hung from the trees, which turned a forest clearing into a perfect and magical place for a wedding.

The day itself started off as rather murky, and then fluctuated between (rare) sunny patches, and heavy rain (to the extent that people were being towed out of the car park field at the end of the day…), but the wedding party was utterly oblivious to the wet, and in typical British style the guests were out in the rain under umbrellas, even when they could have been under the cover of a gazebo, and Anya was one of the most relaxed brides ever.  I even got a nice retro soft-focus effect to some of my shots with all the rain on my lens.

What a truly lovely wedding.  And if I had a pound for every wedding that I got that old cliched shot of the father of the bride on top of the groom’s shoulders cleaning a stained glass window in a forest, I would… well, I would probably just be £1 better off…
