House of Commons REC Event
I was asked down to the Houses of Parliament by the REC for a launch of a report on Thursday. I am always happy to go to REC events – they are well organised and all go very well. This one was no exception.
I headed down by train, and by the time I had been through security etc had little time to appreciate the amazing building. It is spectacular inside, and as it was my first visit I would have liked to have been able to stroll through rather than beetling through at speed!
The event itself was in one of the Dining Rooms, with a drinks reception first. I was told by the HoP organiser that I was not allowed out on the terrace with my big camera (ironically if I had a snappy camera it would have been fine) as it was next to the MP’s bar who get nervous about people with long lenses… Still, there was plenty of space inside for photographs. Unfortunately (and understandably) everyone headed out to the terrace to enjoy the evening sun, leaving me to shoot through the doorway at whoever was close!
Managed to get the shots though, and then all headed for the formal part of the evening, hosted by Dominic Grieve MP, and attended by Baroness Flather amongst others.
I left the event at 8.45, aiming for the 9.13 train from Euston (the last connecting train) – it was always going to be close, but I actually touched the train but the doors had closed, so it was a long wait for the next train and a taxi at the other end. I eventually got home just after midnight, which wouldn’t have been such a problem if I didn’t have to get up at 05.00 to deliver a presentation at BNI the following morning….
Anyway, some shots from the event:
